Over the years of humans magic being clandestine; the main soul types merged due to humans rapidly breeding and the populations rising. It created new traits with new magic and skill sets. Humans still being unaware of the power that bounces about inside of them, waiting to be reawoken by any small ounce of magical essence they could grip onto.
This includes a girl that acts like she is the physical embodiment of curiosity who lives across the mountain from Mt. Ebott city in a small market town.

Keeping them there with a magical barrier, it took seven usable souls to shatter the barrier, but being monsters, their souls didn't work. Instead, they had to use human souls to break the barrier, and even then, humans were not likely to fall in. Because the human waste system ends up in the underground, the monsters are informed of what's going on up on the surface, and have developed human-like lifestyles, which included scholarship, friendships and the like, but it seemed, that the monsters were eager to get back on the surface again. Six humans were unlucky enough to fall into the underground, and the leader of the monsters, Asgore Dreemurr killed these humans to use their souls for removing the barrier. Asgore thought that those humans were the only ones that would fall in, but he was wrong. Two more humans fell in, but their souls were lost before Asgore could even use them, and those soulless ghosts were doomed to haunt the underground.
