Kate's life has finally taken a turn for the better. Her mother is getting married again and her nightmares about her father's car accident had subsided. She gets to spend every day working and reading fantasy novels, while working on books of her own as a Creative Writing major.

That is, until strange events start occurring and her waking hours become filled with mysterious chanting in her ears and visions of dark hooded figures. When a wolf attacks her on a ski trip, Kate is pulled into a world of magic, where war threatens to wipe out all of the people within it. 

Dark forces have surrounded Crosswood Academy, a Supreme Council institution turned refuge for its legacies. When Kate crosses paths with the successors of the Council, she is told she is a Protecor- a half-demon bound by blood to protect the families of the realm.  

A new duty is placed into her hands, one not even the most imaginative fantasy novels could conjure. As her two worlds collide, she must balance her newfound power with her longing for normalcy.
