Hestia Avel is a lowly maid from the land of Senna, a place of sparkling ballrooms, terraced gardens and icy forests, where women are at the constant mercy of men and marriage.

Wyn Calder is a metal-smith's apprentice from the violence-ridden land of Lophae, a place of Gothic castles, strange weather, shadows and daggers.

Just when everything for Hestia seems to be getting worse, a group of mismatched people from different worlds pull her from danger. Self-named the 'Unusuals', they must use psychic abilities and elemental powers to fight against Fumers, the omnipresent evil forces that threaten both nature and humanity. Hestia and Wyn's mutual hate is challenged and morphed into something more, as they encounter worlds and situations unlike anything they have seen.
