I remember a tale Mother had told me before she had grown uncaring.

"Gods are more like mischievous spirits than sentinel, grand beings. They don't rule, but they play."
"Ma, isn't magic fake?"
"Listen, Kinsley.
Once upon a time, there were beings of terror- what we now call goddesses and gods, but they aren't as human as we believe them to be. They're manisfestions made from humankind greed, lust, fear, spirits bourne of jealousy and hate and love. The strongest of all of them was fear, Kins. Fear changes things, even over hope. His name, was Fade. Legend has it that humankind eventually imprisoned them all in Death, and this is why people fear dying. These spirits still lurk down there, they say, and once they think you're worth toying with, there's no getting out. If you're lucky, maybe you'll die peacefully without meeting any of them; but if you're not.."
"Ma, that sounds just like some old horror story."
"Oh? Well, I think you should sleep- maybe you'll meet some of them yourself."

Sometimes, a person can feel lonely even while being surrounded by people. I, on the other hand, have never been surrounded by people, because if anything, I preferred feeling alone without anyone. Or more like being alone with my imaginary friend. I created Jayden in my mind back when I was nine years old. For most of my life, I transferred schools non-stop in hopes to have a better social life, at least that's what my parents wished for me to have. Unfortunately for them, I already gave up on that. I simply continued talking to Jayden, the only friend I ever had since childhood. And it just kept going as it was... until it didn't. ~~~ ~This story is dedicated to my younger self. Life had taken a turn for the better ever since my troubled brother was incarcerated for life. However, one day, a sense of unease crept over me and my best friend as we noticed a mysterious figure tailing us through the bustling town. "Ally, who's that man?" my best friend inquired, her voice tinged with concern. I scanned the area nervously, my heart pounding. "We should get out of here," I urged, seizing her arm as we hastily made our way through the crowded streets. Abruptly, I awoke from a disquieting nightmare, my screams ricocheting through the silent house. "Mom, there's a man chasing me in my dreams," I gasped out, my hands trembling. She attempted to soothe me, attributing the tumultuous visions to my overactive imagination. On one occasion, I inadvertently overheard my mom and aunt engaged in a hushed conversation, puzzling over what impending revelation they were deliberating. Eventually, I mustered the courage to confront the enigmatic man who had been shadowing me. "Why have you been following me? Who are you?" I demanded, my voice quivering with trepidation. "I am Aleekie Smith," he disclosed, leaving me dumbfounded. "You're the man from my dream," I whispered, the pieces falling into place. The drama unfolded further as I crossed paths with a former boyfriend adamant on asserting control, his aggression escalating to a perilous climax when he brandished a firearm. Feeling ensnared, I made a pivotal decision to extricate myself from the tumult, severing ties with everyone in a dramatic departure. Amidst escalating tension and conflict, an unexpected source of solace materialized in the form of my father, ushering the narrative into an unforeseen trajectory. To uncover the compelling trajectory of events that ensued, I urge you to continue reading. This is merely the entrancing prologue of the gripping saga that awaits. Don't forget to vote and comment!
