You don't really know what it is but something about him makes him special. Could it be that he's shy and lonely just like you? Whatever it is, you promise yourself that one day you'll confess your feeling towards him. Then he suddenly disappears and got worried. After multiple events, you get on the bus and find yourself new to the area and lost. You mindlessly go around asking for directions but nobody is willing to help. Kaneki is still coming to terms to almost dying at the hands of a ghoul and later waking up as one himself. He's always been a kind and gentle person since he was a child, but now; he's a ghoul that must kill and eat humans to survive. Kaneki is now part of a world that is far more complicated and close to home than he could have ever imagined. Uta was hurt multiple times by people he thought loved him and now has a nasty chip on his shoulder. He'd became a fuck boy with a knack for breaking hearts. Ghouls always fell for the whole 'tortured soul' thing he had going for him and he'd let them if it meant taking his mind off things.
