"As the men turned around, their arrogant swagger diminished, and unbeknownst to Alina, they saw a frightening sight. The tall stranger held one of their own in a choking grip, and, before the eyes of those villainous drunkards, the man gagged and gasped for air, his face turning numerous colors. The suffocating man finally fell limp, and the imposing stranger cast him aside on the ground. Alina heard the stranger nearing her, so she stiffened her spine in response to what she was sure would be blows or some type of malevolent action. Instead, she was shocked to feel strong yet gentle hands on her waist, lifting her up, up, off the ground, and into the stranger's arms. She struggled in protest, but her attempts to escape were futile, and only resulted in the stranger's muscled arms encircling her even tighter, like bands of steel."

Astuam is a broken kingdom, filled with broken people. When a young apothecary's apprentice meets an intimidating stranger, her life is turned upside down. The fates that hang in the balance will soon change everything- for good, or for evil.

"Stop that." I jumped slightly as my eyes shot over to the familiar hulking form standing in the doorway of my bathroom. I always forget how tall Derek is until I'm standing right next to him. Or in this case in front of him. "Stop what?" my brows furrowed as I watched his reflection fully enter the room until he stood right behind me. His large hands rested on either side of me on the counter, trapping me between his arms. His chin hovered over my left shoulder as his forest eyes scanned my face in the mirror, his lips forming a small barely noticeable frown. But I noticed it. "Stop judging yourself." was his simple reply, but I know that something like that is easier said than done. "you're beautiful, red..." he leaned in further and I could feel his hard chest pressed against my back, making my insides do somersaults. "if you knew what I've done... the people I've hurt... you wouldn't think I was beautiful either..." ...... Alice Books has blood on her hands and doesn't believe she deserves a shot at redemption. A shot at love. Or a shot at life in general. What she did to have blood on her hands was out of self-defense and survival, but she doesn't see it that way and doubts she ever will... Until she meets the bad boy, Derek Wilder, who- underneath all the glares, tattoos, piercings, and leather jackets- is an absolute goofball. He sees Alice for all she's worth: Strong, beautiful, and not the cold-blooded murderer she likes to claim she is. He's determined to prove it to her no matter how long it takes- all the while fighting demons of his own. Will Alice continue to think she's the monster the voice in her head claims her to be? Or will Derek's demons ruin everything for everyone? ............... I will be uploading every MONDAY! ⚠️trigger warning⚠️ This story does contain ABUSE! so if that is something that you are not comfortable reading, I ask that you DO NOT READ! you have been warned...

I lift my hand, holding my pistol to his chest, hovering over his heart. He stares at me, emotions spilling out of him. Emotions I can't decipher. He leans closer, the tip of the barrel pressing into his skin, just above his heart. "Do it," he whispers, inches from my face. I hold his gaze, while his hands snake under my shirt, grazing my skin. "I dare you," he lowers his voice, so gently, "Shoot me." My finger curls around the trigger, an inch from pulling it. I glare into his eyes, "You're a fucking monster," I whisper. He nods, "I know." "You kill without remorse," I spit. "I know." "I hate you," My finger screams at me to pull the trigger. "I know." "I'm disgusted by you." "I know," he inhales, letting his forehead rest against mine. His gaze falls to my lips, "If you want me dead, then kill me, pull the trigger." - It's no longer a question. My morals are gone, leaving nothing but a monstrous killing machine. Any hope for some sort of sympathy, some regard for life is nonexistent. I want death.
