My name is Anya. I was left behind on a bitterly cold winter day-until my mother, Petunia, found me on her way home after a late shift at the diner. My luck didn't end there. I grew up happy in our little apartment, sharing chocolate ice cream and gossiping about boys, dreaming about college, and working hard to make her proud. Life was perfect.

In our home, there were only three rules:

Always apologize, no matter how angry you are.
And most importantly-never stay out after dark.
