Every man and woman of power who've heard the tale of fortune that permeates The Black Valley, are seeking to acquire a stone-encrusted ore called, 'The Key to Ruins'.

It's been told that this stone, when placed into the nook of the valley's easternmost mountain, will widen the alcove and reveal a passageway that descends down into several different catacombs full of riches. Some say the remains of the Dahk gods lay there while other, less religious scavengers, simply believe that the first to unlock the crypt will be the first to rule the world. Few understand that The Key to Ruins is just chaos poisoning men's heads and twisting women's hands, emanating greed from every mortal capable of sin.

This greed causes Malek to suffer many losses while experiencing short-lived feats, and he does not realize that until his journey nears its end.

Time and time again we're told historic stories about adventurous men full of wit, talent, and vigor who sailed and traveled and did things no man ever could.

Malek, king of Ries, did not become king so easily as the son and heir next in line to seize such power. He trekked through hellish lands no man could ever hope to survive, suffered losses and endured enough death to turn him insane.

His historic tale is filled with much more than the archetypical feats of a hero we praise without thought.

And this story tells it all...

55 parts Complete Mature
Growing up in chaos isn't simple for all. Not many could cope. They would struggle and kick, but ultimately drown. However, for Dakota, that was his normality. Torturing. Maiming. Killing. That was his life, the life of a hunter. The Arizona line was elusive, written fame in the lore of hunters, and infamy for their prey. They were the best. No one could ever compare to their skills, their abilities, their ruthlessness. But Dakota was something else. His siblings might have learnt to enjoy the hunt, well most of them anyway, but Dakota didn't. There was always something missing for him, something he was waiting on. Silent and everlasting hope. A promise had been made to him, the day his twin brother was stolen, taken by the enemy, plucked right from the very home the Arizonas had grown up in. A promise of something better, something that he might actually want in his life. Now, almost sixteen years later, something was coming. A change was begging to be found. Maybe it would be for the best. Maybe Dakota would finally find that certain something that had been missing his whole life, something to fill the dark and fractured abyss that ached and wailed within. But nothing was ever that simple. Because, of course, the promise that had been made to Dakota would never be anything plausible for him, anything tangible to have and to hold. He had been promised a new life, by the greatest enemy of them all. It wouldn't be easy. Not with his family still clinging to his heels, the teachings of blood and violence burnt into his mind. No, leaving them behind wouldn't ever be easy. Then again, staying with them would only bring his inevitable death. Why not take the chance to die happy? After all, out of the ashes, a phoenix will rise...
Gamleon's Tail ~ Welcome to the worlds of : Within ~ by Cicada3300
17 parts Ongoing Mature
I wrote this for EVERYONE. To appeal to anyone that reads ANY genre. It combines almost all of them. It's an introduction to the Worlds of Within universe. When you get to the action parts (which doesn't take long) you should be invested enough to want to unravel the mysteries and enjoy its intrigue... The flood is raging. A terrifying, heartless mountain of water, swallowing the world . The tunnel networks? Of course, that won't save them. The forests? Like leaves in a breeze. The lookout towers and trade hubs? Gone. Washed clean. Every home, every last trace of what once was. Gamleon is the first to see it ... and survive. His mind is near collapse, his heart broken. He runs. What would YOU do? What could anyone do? Some scrape by in a mythological setting of beasts and medieval men. Cruel, literally cold-blooded Gorgon hordes enforce an absolute rule slithering in the tunnels beneath the feet of every kingdom. There is an isolated, forgotten place. A cavern, magnificent and vast, older than civilization. A place where the weird and the unwanted might ride out this cataclysm if Gamleon can stay alive long enough to get them there.. In this special place, something incredible, cut off from the outside, lurks. Something... you won't be ready for or ever expect. Gamleon, our weary adventurer, is a paradox: terrifying to some perhaps, yet his heart and intent is helpful, with a quiet dignity bordering on noble, intimidating and innately intelligent. The only way back out is to navigate the Gorgon tunnels. Join him, won't you ? Share his inner thoughts . See and feel how they help us all learn how to persist and triumph in spite of a world where everything is stacked against us. ( sound familiar, it should.) Join him and be swept away as he encounters or invents never-before-seen innovations and outrageous challenges. Dignity meets hope. Self-respect shines beyond courage. Welcome my friend to the Worlds of Within.

A cluster of snowflakes. That's the first thing he remembered. He was much younger then. And much more innocent. That's how they all start, isn't it? No one is ever born a monster. But anyone can turn into one. Alarik Solis is a cold-hearted villain with only one thing on his mind. Finding the celestial crystal. As a child, he had the powers of his ice witch mother, but the heart and strength of his kind celestial father, and his mother despised him for it. She froze his heart, cursing him with immortality and loneliness. Only true love's kiss or the crystal could break the curse. His only problem was Adara Hayes, his old flame. The last living fire noble. Her mother was the last to hold the crystal, hiding it somewhere safe. To ensure leverage over her, he froze her heart with a catch. As a child of the flame, true love's kiss would thaw her heart, the water dosing her flame and killing her. Her only hope to break the curse was for someone with celestial blood to use the crystal. As an unknown threat looms over them, Alarik realizes he and Adara must work together to find the crystal before they do, and all his old feelings for her begin to surface. He tries to fight them down. He's a villain, afterall. But Adara begins to show him he doesn't have to be the monster everyone fears he is. His struggle with redemption and second chances sends them on a wild adventure to find the crystal and break Adara's curse, and soon he finds he'd do anything to keep her safe. But will it be enough? The Legend of the Uncharted Island by Horus101925

In the 17th century, the infamous pirate Verbeck terrorized the Spanish colonies, amassing an incalculable fortune. But his greatest secret does not lie in the Caribbean... rather, it is hidden on an island in another world, where he stashed his treasure alongside an artifact of unimaginable power: the Helm of Guzob, a war relic of the elves. A Century later, a failed writer steals an ancient diary that describes a sailor's journey in search of an island that appears on no map. Inspired, he writes a novel based on these tales, never imagining that its publication would awaken the fury of the Spanish Empire and the Holy Inquisition, who see more than fiction in those pages... and accuse him of heresy. The writer is arrested and taken to prison. When his granddaughter discovers what has happened, she decides to investigate on her own and soon finds herself drawn into the same dangerous conspiracy. Her search leads her to cross paths with a young Jesuit, a descendant of Verbeck, who is also following the trail of the legendary island. Both end up joining the crew of Captain Skippy, a bold elf in service to the elven colony of Synderin, on the edge of the forests of the British colony of Georgia. With his people on the brink of economic collapse, Skippy sees the hunt for the treasure as the last chance to save his home. But they are not alone in the race for Verbeck's fortune. A greedy viceroy, a ruthless pirate, and fanatical inquisitors, guided by dark forces, are willing to spill blood to claim the helm and the pirate's cursed gold. For Skippy, his crew, and their new allies, this journey will be more than a simple treasure hunt: it will be an odyssey that defies the laws of their world and forces them to confront secrets that were never meant to be uncovered.
