The Monster Above the Bed

Every child's fear, the monster that lives under the bed.
But not this little girl.
Monsters don't have to be big with thick black fur, or long claws with sharp teeth.
For this little girl, the monster was the one who cooks her meals, and reads to her.
It's the ones in the kitchen fighting all the time, and the one who hits her when they're drunk.
For her, the monster is above the bed, and the kind and loving ones live under the bed.
