Descendant of English aristocrats and French settlers, Chenoa Petersen lives in a mansion near Brome Lake in Canadian Estrie. In her first year of college, she experiences her first love while her family, against all odds, pushes her to choose the man she will marry in a year's time because at the Verlayne's, all girls must be married for love at nineteen to avoid a mysterious curse.
