The Western Isles is home to the wild, mythological creatures that are fawnlings: Deer and horse hybrids, resembling that of unicorns. Far away from all human contact, the isles keep numerous animals safe - as safe as the mythological world can be. The isles are fraught with magical beings, vicious manifestations, and lovely sorts of nature; all at exposure of the five kingdoms: The proud Glenmore, the cunning Blackwood, the hardy Windborne, the logical Silverthorne, and the secretive Oakfern.

Deep within Glenmore, Leila was born. Her parents were both loving and nurturing. She grew aside her little sister and older brother. Life was good until Leila's sister turned her back on her, swearing off all connection to her big sister for she claimed to have outgrown "sisterly affiliations." Leila left her family in search of that familiar feeling of being safe, sound, and loved. As a teenager, Leila imagines a perfect life ahead of her: A tall prince charming, loyal friends, wrongful enemies, and beautiful foals. However, Leila is about to embark on something much more terrifying. She will soon find that life is not as imagination mends it to be... Leila will discover betrayal, experience abandonment, and for the first time in her young life, grasp the concept of life and death.
