I was a 10 year old boy in a quiet neighborhood. My best friend didn't live very far away, but it felt like 1000 miles. We play a lot of Minecraft, Fortnite( only once for me ), and we also play outside. We do a lot of things together. Well, not anymore. Ever since hurricane Katrina, the whole population was wiped to only half. But they all went away after that, so me, my family, and Thomas were the only ones left. We are pretty down to earth people. We can always find food but in winter it's very scarce.

I never believed it would end like this. I was just watching Netflix when the power went out, then before I knew it everyone was screaming, then the school began to shake and fell to the ground. Only three kids in my entire school were spared, four if you count me. I found a group of people heading to the east coast for a boat trip to a supposed safe haven in India. They died of disease days later. I found their bodies by the river. But I guess this is my life now, surviving with a scared boy, a pair of twins and trying to make it to the next day. They said that "Changing is part of LIFE.", at least that's what the CSD (Change and Save Department) used to say. They thought they created a "cure". A cure to save many people's lives from sickness, cancer, and all. Unfortunately... They were wrong. It was fine at first... However, their first test subject? It was for no good. Instead of a cure, they made a "virus". The virus is incurable for now. Many people protested against the CSD and the government. It changed.. but it was never saved... They said that once they bit you, in an hour the virus will spread throughout your body and kill you, then you'll be alive but not like you used to be. There are many survivors, but there are also many who have been turned into monsters. They call these monsters, "zombies". The CSD promised that they'll find a cure, but much-lost hope, lost hope for being alive, lost hope for survival. A 17 yrs. the old girl was in between that. Everything might sound and look horrible but she never lost hope for survival. "I'm running out of food.." she kept on talking to herself since there was no one but her. She saw a grocery store nearby so she checked it out if there were food, and fortunately, there was. She stuffed the food in her bag until she heard something. "Is someone there?" She asked, she hoped it wasn't what she thought about but there it was. The zombie's legs were twisted so it will have a hard time catching her. However, she never encountered that close. She stuffed the last food in her bag and ran. She ran to the girl's restroom. When she opened the door there were zombies! It almost caught her but fortunately, nothing happened to her. She ran back but there were more! "Please don't say this is how I'm going to die!" She said to herself. Is she going to die? Who will she meet? Will they survive this cruel world?? Book 1 of Dan Barnes Series. I am a single male with a degree in science and engineering. My name is Dan Barns, I was in the army for four years, worked in the private sector for five years with a six figure salary and was bored out of my mine. I grew a great nest egg, but I was not cut out to wear a suit and tie and then attend meetings everyday. I wanted so much more. I am six foot even, and I weigh around 186 on a bad day. My hair is brown with natural black streaks, and I have a nice tan. I love the great outdoors. I grew up as a single kid with a single parent who worked all the time. I aced science every time and fixed things for my mother and myself because of a lack of money. I never knew my dad, but once a year, my mother would get a check for my upkeep. My dad was a well traveled man and never stuck around after mom had me. Things were tough, but we made it. I got scholarships for my doctorate in both fields. I graduated as a doctor in six years. Problem that shaped me into the man I am today was, my mom died when I was 16 and I deicide to test out of school, joined the military, spent four years as special operative, and into college as an adult, I tested out of some of the easier classes. I kept the house because it was paid for and was in mine and my mother's name. I kept her truck, because it was also paid for and it helped when I need to remember her. I was twenty seven when I walked across the stage for my diploma and was sought after by some very big companies. I worked for one of these companies for five years and then I was bored. I retired at thirty one. I laid low, putting around my house, helping my neighbors, and helping out at the boys and girls club coaching basketball. For two years, I stayed in my own little piece of the gulf. I did not spend a lot of money, I fixed things, sold electric back to the electric company, and had fun with the teens.
