Damian and Marinette grew up together in the League of Assassins. They were betrothed at the age of 6. When the attack constructed by Deathstroke happened, Damian was sent to live with his father, while Marinette was to live with a nice Parisian couple with the cover story of her living in the foster care system. They had no way to contact each other, until one of them found a way.
Marinette and Damian are reunited, but there was a bump in their reunion. See how Damian handles this so-called bump in "Since the Beginning."

Animosity led it all. It has been the reason of everything! Reason for all the misunderstandings that were created between Damian and Marinette, the non-identical twins of Bruce and Talia. Marinette was a kind girl, broken from inside and hated by her brother Damian has been an insolent boy. Envious of not being favored by anyone but Dusan and Nyssa. What happens when Mari comes to know that someone was framing her mother? It was someone who they never expected to do these kinds of things that happened. Will Marinette, with her healing powers, would be able to bring back the two destroyed leagues? Will Marinette finally be able to bring back her dead brother? Will Damien finally realize that he was wrong in hating Marinette? Who will make him realize that? Will Marinette finally let Jon break down her walls? --- "It was all a part of the plan."
