Raymond Patrick, a young man that left Oldham as a child, finally returned to his homeland to write a book about life in the countryside. 

One day when he heard the century-old legend of a woman named Serene, Ray starts to ponder more about it. Serene's story had aroused his curiosity, and that made him wonder if Serene really was the woman she was known for.
