The story follows the journey of Matthew, the little pickpocket once appears in Disgraceful, who has grown up to be an adolescent thug. His life takes a dramatic turn after he saves Arabella, a spirited young lady from robbery. Soon Matthew and Arabella get swept in a whirlwind romance, only to be too quickly separated by a tragedy. 

Unexpected turns of events bring Matthew to London, where he saves the life of Mr. Goddard, a notorious gaming club owner. The man becomes his mentor and bequeaths him an obscene amount of fortune. When the old man draws his last breath, his final wish is for Matthew to marry his foster daughter Marguerite, who has been secretly in love with Matthew from the first time she laid eyes on him.

Still haunted by the ghost of his long-lost love, Matthew is caught in a quandary. Just as Maggie's untiring devotion eventually finds a way into his heart, a chance encounter with Arabella turns his world upside down. 

Obliged to marry a woman and desperately wants another, Matthew finds himself at a crossroads. Should he choose the woman he always dreamed of, or the one who's been there for him the whole time?
