After defeating Zorac and ending the Shadow Games forever, Atem is faced with a choice: return to the afterlife and face the failures of his first life, or stay in the comfort of the present day with his friends and dearest partner. The choice seems easy at first, and only seems to get easier as the years go on. But the past soon begins to catch up with him - in the form of a suspiciously familiar young woman - and suddenly a revelation threatens to rock his peaceful existence to its very core.
[Takes place five years post-canon. A look at what might have happened if Atem decided to stay in the present day instead of returning to the afterlife. Beware: contains rather large canon divergences, including a strong tie-in with my previously published fic, "Ascension," which features Atem's wife and my OC, Satiah. The focus of this fic is less on Satiah and more on Atem and his relationship with Yugi. All that to say, this fic may still read fine without previous knowledge of Ascension, but I definitely recommend checking it out anyway ;)]

This story is packed with millennium item troubles, a tournament, and Egypt related events. Warning: Some dark themes, violence and suggestive moments. Things escalate exponentially around the climax. I feel like a part of me is this Hapu Van Schroeder character. She has some of my quirks and qualities that get us both into loads of trouble. A lot of experiences she goes through may be a reflection or variation of my own personal experiences. So.... Enjoy! When Atem decides to remain in Japan with Yugi and the gang things soon turn upside down when Solomon Muto says his final goodbyes. With Yugi struggling to cope with the loss of his grandfather, Atem's left to face the real world and how hard living in the modern world is. Author's Note: The shipping is Prideshipping (Yami Yugi/Atem x Seto Kaiba). I merged both anime and manga into this so there will be mentions not from the anime but by the manga. Also, this was published a few years ago on my fanfiction and archive account. After much consideration, I have decided to add on wattpad as another writing platform to publish my novellas.
