Well sirens are mythical creatures that only lived in stories. But when she gets in the water on her 17th birthday she turned in to a siren, or mermaid. In front of everyone, she was seen as a threat. So she ran, away from the sneers and death threats of the people she used to call friends. Even her parent disowned her.
