While writing another story of mine, "A Druidess' Guide to Dragons", I bounced around a few ideas that would be fun to incorporate, but at the same time would seem awkward and out of place. Instead, I decided to write a side story (which will be very similar to "A Druidess's Guide to Dragons") written in another perspective: you. As the author, I would recommend ready "A Druidess' Guide to Dragons" first, because it will explain a few concepts that I will not be going into great detail in this story.
While on a hike, you discover a lone book sitting off the path. The pages are yellowed and worn, the cover nearly fallen off. Picking it up, you examine the cover. There are no words, at least no words that you can read. The entire cover is written in some unknown language (Latin perhaps?), with weird spiky drawings. Inside, all the pages are written in different languages, mostly Latin and French. At a first glance, only one page is written in English. The only page written in English is a warning. The book wants you to abandon it, so something called a "fae" won't attack you. You ignore the warning, choosing to take the book home instead. As you translate it, you find yourself drawn into a hidden world full of secrets, and magic. Maybe those conspiracists were right after all.
