Ichiro Kousaka, a 16-year-old boy from Grengrove Town, begins his journey as a Pokémon trainer after an incident in Professor Oak's lab. His childhood friend, Clara, receives the same Pokémon he does--an Eevee, a fox-like furry Pokémon, which Ichiro soon nicknames his as 'Kitsu', referring to the Japanese name for fox.
As he reaches the next city, he encounters a malevolent criminal team called Team Frost. Their goal is to separate Pokémon from humans to prevent cruelness to Pokémon.
After Ichiro, Clara, and another Pokémon trainer from the Sinnoh region foil Team Frost's plot to sabotage the Viridian City gym, Ichiro catches his first Pokémon. 
Ichiro soon decides to challenge the gym leader in Viridian City, fighting-type Pokémon user Bruno. He barely scrapes through, but not without a price.
Ichiro travels to the old Pewter City, dismayed to find the gym leader not inside the gym. As it turns out, Team Frost are causing catastrophe at Mt Moon, a connecting mountain from Pewter City to Cerulean City. 
Can Ichiro stop the spiteful plan of Team Frost this time? Will him, Clara and Pewter City's gym leader Burgh have enough strength to beat an advanced commander of Team Frost, one of the infamous Shadow Triad?
