Racism is the prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against other people because they are of a different race or ethnicity. Black people all over the world have had a taste of racism. We are perceived to be barbaric and considered less humans. Our heritage severed, we never had the chance to experiment. 

As a young black girl, I've had my own fair share of racial injustice. As the only black girl in an all whites neighbourhood, I've had countless experiences with racial profiling and been a victim of racial stereotyping. But black is all I know there isn't a thing I'll change in it. I am certain I love being black.

My name is Dana Sey and the story below is an account of the ordeal I went through as a young black girl living with white parents in a white neighbourhood.All Rights Reserved

I squint my eyes from the blazing sun picking a dandelion embedded into the soil feeling the slimy texture of the stem on my fingers. "You're playing with dandelions, huh?" ... A story that tells about a boy who grew up in the South witnessing the cruelty of his friends. Having to witness society on the injustices of people who doesn't look like him. A girl who's unable to go anywhere she pleases, facing the mistreatment of people who doesn't look like herself. Until they met each other... Note: There are grammar errors in this book. I wonder why people feel like they have the right to ask me about my personal life. I don't know how many times a day I am asked, "Who are you? Where are you from? What are you mixed with?" My replies to those people are, "Why do you care where I'm from? It is your business to know what I am mixed with? How dare you overstep your boundaries and violate my space? Society judges my skin color, my hair, and my exotic features. It does not accept me for being who I am. I often hear, "You are too light to be black" or "You are too dark to be white." They size me up with their eyes of hate as if I asked for their opinion. I don't owe you an explanation. I am not on trial because of my background. I didn't choose my race. I did not ask to be here -- but I am here. I am not ashamed of who I am. You asked me, "Who am I?" The real question is, why are you obsessed with my race? Why is it any of your concern? I am Stella. I am 16 years old, and I am proud of who I am! I am biracial, and I am a human being just like you.
