When Leopold Mernick, imperial spy, arrives in Nuremberg to pay a visit to his sister, he immediately finds himself as a witness in a murder investigation. A well-known gingerbread baker and her apprentice are dead and someone is leaving strange clues at the bakery that heavily indicate the fairy tale "Hansel and Gretel". Leopold joins the hunt for the killer, because for him, there is only one solution to the mystery: Find Gretel!
