In the world of Aethasia, 16-year-old nomad Nola Applequill flees from the emotionally tiring life of Urchin's Grotto and unwillingly gets tangled up in a criminal case with the detectives at No Man's Landing Police Department, headed by Detective Gloria Oldenpinner. As the group encounters oceans, bombs, and assassins from a mysterious society called the "Xare", Nola must learn how to trust others again in this wild ride of an adventure story.

Some of you may recognize this story from The Aetherlight Forums, commonly referred to as ALF. After over a year of being gone from the forums, I wanted to post this story here so I can still add to it. This story has been more of a passion to me than most of my other fan-fiction projects, and I still want you all to see it for the gem I tried to forge it to be. ;) This story has undergone some major editing - because, let's face it, my writing needed some help when I started this story - so I hope you will enjoy this new, updated, and *much* more consistent version of NA:CU.

I place one leg on the side of the chair he's seated on and pull out a pistol from my waistband. I look into his hazelnut eyes for his reaction. scared, confused, just the reaction I was dying for. "Holy shit that's a gun" he exclaims "I told you earlier not to be fooled. I'm evil, wicked, I'm the devil, I rob banks, innocent people, I derive joy from people's pain and fear, I get wealth by doing dare devil jobs-" I cut myself in, not wanting to leak too much info. I've said just about enough already. "I still love you " he spat, glaring intently at me. mine widens in shock I quickly mask it over with an emotionless and bored expression. I close up our space once more. "Even if I am ready to blow out your brain? don't you think it's a little too soon for you to use the word "love" ?it's pretty strong!! A boy no older than me is just standing there, he is wearing a gray shirt with a hole in the shoulder and it has a handful of stains and dirt spots on it. I immediately know he is not from Treegrass. Not only have I never seen him before in my life but everyone in our town always wears nice clean and washed clothes, therefore nobody should be looking like him. The boy has a small cut on his cheek and is thin, a lot thinner than he should be. I look away from him and around at my surroundings, there is no one else here. I regain my composure and look at him again. That's when he says something that makes my blood run cold. "Run."

This is 1/2 part of what I'm working on. It's kind of a haters to lovers type vibe, so there will be more of a slow burn angsty tension rather than straight up smut :) While I was writing the 50th chapter. I found a better way to describe this version of Y/N and Emily Prentiss: A self destructive drug addict with a traumatic past meets a somewhat patient federal agent... So, there will be a lot of substance usage in this story.. And it'll probably be somewhat toxic because I'm definitely not promoting substance abuse. Y/N is a total mess. After surviving an abusive relationship with the son of a mob boss who made her do some horrible things, she's been stuck in a downward spiral of anger, guilt, and self-destruction. Losing her dad a few days after her escape only made herangrier. She's selfish and a coward, always trying to protect herself. (Spoiler alert: she's not great at lying, but she keeps trying anyway.) **Trigger Warnings** Substance Abuse: alcohol, lots of drugs. Domestic Abuse: Mentions of Y/N's toxic and abusive relationship.
