I smiled and dared to share the thought that had just popped into my head. "Well if it helps you any...you've already reached that goal. You helped me when I couldn't help myself. You saved me from a very difficult situation," I said, feeling my cheeks warm. "I guess that makes you my hero."

I glanced at him shyly to see his eyes wide in shock.

"I..." He wasn't looking at me now but down at the controller in his hands, which he gripped tightly. "I don't feel like I did anything that heroic but...we're friends now, right? That means I'll be here for you whenever you need me. If that makes me a hero then being your hero will be a pretty easy job."
