No matter the size of your house, clutter and lack of business can become a nagging problem that complicates your life. I think we all try to decrease stress and simplify our daily lives but the majority of us find this a fairly major challenge. No matter how often I tried, household members did not have the same intent and that I found myself fighting. Spending some time searching for things (especially when you are running late - cellphone? keys? backpacks?) Can truly be an unpleasant way to start a day and coming home to a cluttered space is not enjoyable.

Clutter is a real problem in coastal homes! Older designed homes are often smaller in scale) and several were originally meant for brief vacation/seasonal stays. They lack ample storage as a full time residence. Many houses don't have a basement, attic or garage storage space so being creative and organized in making the most of your home is a must.

Where would you start?
Entrance
Begin at the region you use to enter and exit your house. A mudroom is great but if you don't have that option, I suggest a bench, baskets for sneakers, hooks for coats and a shelf to depart keys, phones, ID badges, etc.. It can be household central if you've got a blank wall to get a calendar or reminders. Labeling what's a plus and getting creative with this can make the space look personalized and attractive.
