After risking my life and freedom to save my family, nothing but terrible things have reigned my life. Wanted for my strength and power, I am sold to the humans. And not just any human, the King. You may ask why I talk about humans as if I am not one of them. That is because I am something very different. I come from a species known as Skin Walkers. Our race has inhabited the Earth much longer than any human. Myths and legends were told about us, mostly in the idea of werewolves. Humans were foolish to think that the only animal we could shift into was a wolf. Our race consists of any and every animal. You see, we each have one animal that is our other half. We are strong, fast, almost invincible. Except for one small weakness, one known to none other than the King. They call me the Shadow Assassin. For they never see me coming.

She came from nothing. Born small, weak, and unwanted. The kind of child who should have been forgotten. He was born with everything. Strength in his blood, power in his name. Praise followed him like a shadow. She is fire-reckless, untamed, impossible to cage. He is ice-cold, distant, his heart frozen to care for no one. She was never meant to survive. He was never meant to fall. Together, they'll rewrite the rules carved into their bones. *** It smelled like earth and smoke, alive and dangerous. And then I saw him. Grim. He stood near the fire, carved from sun and stone, scars slashing across his skin like lightning. When his storm-grey eyes locked on mine, the world tilted. He moved toward me-slow, predatory, every step a warning. His hand shot out, rough and unyielding, dragging me close with a grip that burned. "Don't move," he snarled, voice sharp enough to cut. I knew who he was. Grim.
