The Archangel of Eximmer, the most feared assassin on the shattered continent and heir to the throne of assassins, has been supposedly dead for three years, thrown off the edge of a cliff as a sort of execution for not killing her target. That is until she shows up at her former target's castle. King Ian of Thuyet strikes a bargain with the Archangel and sends her to the ward at Silkstream. There she meets the young heir to the Silkstream barony, Ian's secret ward, a scholar, a traitor, and her former slave master. The Archangel manages to hide in the ward for the time, using the name of Meli Ryder, but her past as an assassin and her secrets are catching up with her. Her true name is one that is a death sentence to anyone who comes in contact with her.

Cornelia Aurora Estawrozai, wielder of the royal family's magic and heir to the Lasmorthian throne... doesn't exist. The day she was born, she had a sister-an identical twin, born mere minutes later. What should have been a moment of joy quickly turned to dread. It was only the second time in Lasmorthian history that identical twins were born into the royal line, and the first time had ended in betrayal and civil war. Both twins had shared equal magic, but a rewritten contract ensured only the elder's bloodline would inherit it. That didn't stop the younger from turning on his brother, fracturing the kingdom in two. So this time, there was no celebration. There was fear. To prevent history from repeating itself, it was decided: the younger twin would be sent away. The elder would remain-but stripped of her inheritance. The royal magic would instead pass to a younger brother yet to be born. But their mother had other plans. Following a cryptic prophecy from the Oracle, she made a fateful choice. The twins were switched. The eldest, magic and all, was cast out. And the world never knew. Now, that girl-who named herself Sky-lives free of titles, crowns, and destiny. After escaping an abusive adoptive family and discovering her dormant power, she joined a guild of assassins led by a secretive, enigmatic master. Trained in magic, shadow, and steel, Sky has one goal: to be strong enough to choose her own fate. Whether she returns to claim the power stolen from her is not for others to decide. The throne may call to her. But only she will choose whether to answer.
