Chapter 1- The Daughter, The College Student McKenna Rose Williams. That was the name chosen for me eighteen years ago on the day of my birth. Now, I am a college freshman, it is September, and the first day of classes at Westbrook University in sunny, Southwest Utah; the first day of my new, official life. "You look wonderful, sweetie." Mark compliments me. Mark is my father, and also the band director at Freemont High, where I graduated just four months earlier. "Thanks." I smile back. "Ready for this?" "More than ever!" I say, though inside I am shaking, completely nervous. "You'll be fine- no worries." He says reassuringly, sipping his Diet Coke. I return the reply with a quick peck on his cheek, going out to my purple Grand Prix GT and starting it up. The quiet roar of the engine calms my fraying nerves. Don't be nervous I think, pulling my long blond hair back into a ponytail. It's the beginning of a new life with new experiences!! Breathe. Lucky for me, Westbrook is only ten-ish minutes away. Stopped at a red light, I blare Joan Jett's "I Hate Myself for Loving You," drumming and singing at the top of my lungs; only to notice a brown-haired blue-eyed man in his late twenties chuckling at this sight. I blush and luckily the light turns green, saving me from utter humiliation. To my great thanks, we head in different directions, and I arrive at W.U. in plenty of time. That was so randomly weird. I hope I don't have to face him anytime soon!! I sigh in relief, lock my car, and head for Western Civilization, my first class of the day; not realizing what is to come.

If Only

"Now that you're mine, that boundary shit goes away for me. If you have a problem, it's my problem. Someone's treatin' you like shit, then they can answer to me. I'm not waiting around and watching you get walked on because I feel like it isn't my place, it is my place now," he finished, and I couldn't help the sad smile that formed on my face. "You don't have to do that though...you don't need to put that kind of burden on your shoulders," I mumbled, the idea of someone taking care of me like that one that I still wasn't accustomed to. He reached forward to grab my chin, the same way he always seemed to when he was telling me something important. I felt my breath hitch as he bent down to look me square in the eyes. "Punishing someone who decides they want to fuck with you isn't an obligation. I can promise you, I'll enjoy every second of it," he assured, though the sentiment wasn't exactly reassuring. ***** Sammy had wanted to leave behind her small town in Kentucky for a place where nobody would know her or her tragic past.
