The Zahhak family is poor. They can barely afford to live, and food was scarce. His parents eventually fell ill and died, leaving just him and Horuss. Equius decided that he would try and become champion to make enough money. Because he was close friends with Jade, he asked if Jake could get him an endorsement. Jake's answer was that if he could beat Jade in a Pokémon battle. He must defeat her, not only this time, but every time he can, in order to come out on top. He'll do whatever it takes.
