He went in for a simple hug figuring his mate would comply. 

All he heard was a short whimper before his mate took a defensive stance. He put his arms in front of his face and tried to look as small as possible. 

Nick was pissed, sure his mate didn't hug him "big deal". No, what pissed him off was the fact that he took a defensive stance as if he was going to hurt him. 

Nicks inner wolf took over as his eyes suddenly turned ruby red. "Who hurt you." he took a step forward not noticing how scared the Omega was. 

The Omega just whimpered again and pushed himself against the wall to get away from Nick. That's when Nick was snapped back to reality.
