Maya Arias is a compassionate, caring, and organized successful author living in Mississippi. She has everything a woman can ask for, that is until she catches her husband of 3 years in bed with one of her friends. Leaving the heartbreak behind Maya moves in with her best friend from college. Only problem, her best friend lives in California. Maya's books aren't selling the same as they did in Mississippi. So to help pay the bills Maya applies for a job at Williams Incorporated, a stock brokerage company.

Maya manages to get a job as the CEO's secretary, Hunter Williams. However, she instantly takes a dislike to Hunter. Maya's cheerful, creative, and energetic attitude instantly clashes with Hunter's malicious, stiff, and hard-working attitude. However, as happy and jovial as Maya may seem, she is hurt and isn't able to trust people like she used to. Her last relationship left her bruised and unable to believe she could ever be loved.

As Maya spends more time with Hunter she is able to see past his stone cold façade. She is able to see that he has been hurt just like her and is scared to open up. In her attempt to understand Hunter, Maya learns things about her self she never knew.
