Torrence Wren is an escaped DNA experiment who has been on the run with her makeshift family for fourteen years. 103 children escaped from Facility 16 of the Shifter Academy, and only 34 are left. She has to lay low. Unfortunately, "laying low' isn't exactly in the vocabulary of her best friend, experiment comrade Jay Sparrow, who constantly feels the need to show off his avian DNA. Can Torrence and Jay outrun the Academy agents and survive in a world where their freedom is illegal? 

Meanwhile, in the sunny state of Florida, Ryker Farrow and his little sister Fenn are dealing with the disintegration of their family. With their father gone and their mother unable to care for them, Ryker takes it upon himself to keep Fenn safe, no matter their cost. And the costs are high for two escaped mammalian experiments on the run. 

Can the two groups manage to stay alive amidst a disintegrating existence? Or will the Academy reclaim their missing project?
