William (Will) Monage has just begun high school after the terrifying, twisted cult he and his family belong to insists. He brings with him his own reputation-ruining secrets. They are a part of a religious cult located deep in the town's woods. The horror he faces each day is hidden successfully until these two very different boys cross paths.
Despite living very different lives, they find themselves experiencing similar emotions through vastly different situations.

On the other hand, the novel follows Skotino and Tyvold, leaders of the Circle of Six, a dark, sadistic cult shielded by corporate holdings and government infiltration. The Circle's chapters are difficult to read. They are evil, without a doubt. Hunkin pulls no punches in their torture chambers as he shows how vile, grotesque they are, drilling down on deep psychological terrors.
