"For the record, I'm not a 'china doll' you can choose to play around with whenever you want. And for the last time, I'm not going to do your math homework for you."

Lainey Yên Duong is the average Vietnamese teenager with strict Asian parents. She's always been surrounded by people who are similar to her, the ones who don't make fun of other people's food their immigrant parents make for their child's lunch. But as the Asian hate crimes in Lainey's area begin to become known, more of the world she entrapped herself in is revealed as a façade. Lainey now must face the reality of racism and learn how to accept not only her community but herself as an individual, Vietnamese teenager.
