Maddy just wanted a new book, but what she found was far, far more than she had ever expected. In a new town, and completely friendless, she goes to the old library and meets the eccentric librarian, Kylie, who everyone insists is mad.
"She wore thick glasses which magnified her eyes, making them look huge. 'Kylie, what are you doing?' Maddy asked laughingly. 'What does it look like I'm doing? I'm restoring a book. But, I can take a break. Now, tell me, did you finish the last one I loaned you?' Kylie asked."
