Life seemed to be perfect to River. One event. Everything changed. The train derailed from its beautiful surroundings heading straight for a bottomless cliff. River would be happy falling into oblivion, if it wasn't for her sister. Her only goal being her safety. Something happens and everything seems to be right back on track. But why does she feel unsure? On the outside Beck seems like a new person. His past behind, or so it seems...Something is still broken inside him. No one knows except for him. What if Beck sees right through her strong girl demeanour? What if River can see through his "I'm okay" façade? What if they like what they see? What if it takes the broken to fix the unfixable? .............................................. "I don't care if I fall to the bottomless pit, Beck. As long as she is safe." her voice cold, like she means it. Something inside me breaks, glass shattering noise. "What if I don't want you to fall?" she stares surprised at me. I take a few steps closer until we are inches apart. Her back to the wall, my body pressing her's. "Why should I care about what you want?" Her breath is shallow. Her jaw clenches. I lean into her, the tips of our noses touching. I gulp. "You do care about me, just like I care about you." I say exposing her blatant lie, we are way past the caring stage and she well knows it. Just as I do. "You know?" I swallow the lump in my throat trying to find the words. "I don't believe in fate," I whisper feeling her breath against my lips. "but if it exists, if you believe in it... I'm sure it's written somewhere." She stays quiet her eyes watching me intently. "What's written?" Her shaky breath screams at me to touch her. To bury myself in her. Inside her. To melt our bodies together and never break apart. "You and I. You fall I fall River. That's how it goes for me." "But just look at the world around you, Love. There's messes everywhere with unclear answers. Don't give up yet." She told me gently. "I know, but I just wish that this was less confusing." "Well, things are gonna get confusing after a while, but you can't just stop trying. You've got to search harder for the answer; maybe it's somewhere you haven't looked yet. Someday you'll trip over a rock that's harder than this, and bandaids won't just stare you in the face. You won't know what to do. So prepare yourself for that day, baby." "I'm gonna trip over a rock?" I asked, eyes widening with worry. She shook her head, the bubbly symphony of her laughs echoing in the room. "No. I mean you're going to be in trouble one day and you won't know how to get out of it. Like this, but tougher." "You mean I'll have to go through this again? But even harder? Ugh, I won't make it." I sighed heavily. "No. I know you will. It just won't be so black and white. It'll be....in between the two." "So it'll be just grey?" She revealed her big, beautiful smile to me as if I had understood all that is right and wrong in the world. Kissing the top of my head, she whispered, "Exactly." {full synopsis inside} Rankings- #16 in juveniles #94 in newkid #241 in multimedia FULLY EDITED VERSION NOW AVAILABLE ON AMAZON KINDLE!!
