This is a short story for a school assignment that I submitted, to which I received the second highest mark in my year level and the year level above me (not trying to brag hahaha). It is a creative response to author Alice Munro's short story, 'Runaway.' I really enjoyed this project and was very much inspired by Munro's beautiful writing style.
While I aimed to make the underlying theme of my story easy to grasp, if you would like some more context I strongly recommend reading Munro's narrative 'Runaway.'

Hope
Kate was used to dealing with unfair consequences. Having a less than ideal home life and no one else to support her, she had learned to deal with things on her own. She had learned not to feel and especially not to hope. So when someone new comes into her life Kate does the best thing she can think of, she shuts them out. But, after a series of events in the course of one day, they are thrown back together, and Kate is given the chance to explain herself. Explain why she was so guarded and why she had closed herself off in the first place. And maybe along the way Kate learns that things aren't always so bad. That feeling and hoping aren't the worst things in the world. ***Warning: Mention of abuse is included in this story. Please don't read if that is a trigger for you in any way. Runaway Wife
Runaway Wife - volume 1. Dive into Ella's story... Meeting her brute of a husband Luca along the way... In exactly one day I will be marrying this man. This man that's trying to control my whole life trying to pretend to everyone that I love him and that I'm the perfect wife. When in fact I'm the complete opposite. "You're a brute an absolute brute. Difficult Times (Jemily)
(I wrote this story when I was in 8th grade so don't hate me for it, I know it's pretty bad but I was proud of it. So just warning you.) Jj is having a hard time at home, Will is abusive to her and no one on the team knows. She has been struggling a lot but she won't open up to anyone. She wondered if she should open up to her best friend Emily but she is scared of what she might think of her. Suicidal
This is the story of an abused teenage girl, Maddie. Her need to die has become overwhelming and she is trying to find a way to help herself before she does something she may regret. The story is told from her point of view as she recalls all that has happened to her. Maybe telling her story will help her, maybe not. This isn't just any other sob story. This is more realistic. You may even find yourself comparing your life to Maddie's while reading this story. Disclosure: I wrote this as a 13-year-old and the writing is definitely not up to my current standards, but I feel as though changing what I have already written would take away from the emotion I put into this story at 13 years old.
