This is a short story for a school assignment that I submitted, to which I received the second highest mark in my year level and the year level above me (not trying to brag hahaha). It is a creative response to author Alice Munro's short story, 'Runaway.' I really enjoyed this project and was very much inspired by Munro's beautiful writing style.
While I aimed to make the underlying theme of my story easy to grasp, if you would like some more context I strongly recommend reading Munro's narrative 'Runaway.'

"I mean look at your mother, she's about to die I guess" He said and pointed to my mom who's in the main door, gasping for air. Avianna walked towards her mom, "Mom, i'm sorry". "I-t's n-not your fau-ult" "Mom, please don't leave me. I need you and dad in my life. Hang in there I'm calling an ambulance. Please mom" "Uh uh uh, baby nope." he said and grabbed her phone "Please I'm begging you!" "Aw, stop crying baby. It hurts me to see you like this" He caressed her cheeks and kissed her forehead. "Okay boys, call Dr. Gabe" "Wait, where's my dad?" "He run away." Avianna sighed in relief for her father is safe, she then looked at her mom again. "Mom, everything will be alright." "You think?" She looked at him in disbelief when he pointed the gun to her mom. Again. Suicidal
This is the story of an abused teenage girl, Maddie. Her need to die has become overwhelming and she is trying to find a way to help herself before she does something she may regret. The story is told from her point of view as she recalls all that has happened to her. Maybe telling her story will help her, maybe not. This isn't just any other sob story. This is more realistic. You may even find yourself comparing your life to Maddie's while reading this story. Disclosure: I wrote this as a 13-year-old and the writing is definitely not up to my current standards, but I feel as though changing what I have already written would take away from the emotion I put into this story at 13 years old. Hope
Kate was used to dealing with unfair consequences. Having a less than ideal home life and no one else to support her, she had learned to deal with things on her own. She had learned not to feel and especially not to hope. So when someone new comes into her life Kate does the best thing she can think of, she shuts them out. But, after a series of events in the course of one day, they are thrown back together, and Kate is given the chance to explain herself. Explain why she was so guarded and why she had closed herself off in the first place. And maybe along the way Kate learns that things aren't always so bad. That feeling and hoping aren't the worst things in the world. ***Warning: Mention of abuse is included in this story. Please don't read if that is a trigger for you in any way. Caged By Him
"WHY CAN'T YOU GET IT INSIDE YOUR HEAD?" He trapped my trembling body between his arms and slammed his fist into the wall. I flinch at the sound as I feel tears forming in my eyes. "I'M SICK AND TIRED OF YOUR CRYING. JUST ACCEPT THE FACT THAT YOU'RE NEVER LEAVING. THIS IS YOUR LIFE NOW, WITH ME" He spits, anger consuming his voice as I push myself further against the wall. Shutting my eyes closed and turning my face to the side as I do. Moments later, I feel his rough hand on my waist and his finger grazing my cheek. "Look at me, love." His hand grips onto my jaw, his thumb playing across my lower lip. He turns my face to meet his as I lower my gaze to the floor. He lowers himself to my level and I feel his breath fanning my cheek causing my breathing to become unsteady. "I love you so much, darling. But you need to learn. You need to learn that you won't be going anywhere. You're mine." With that being said, his other hand slides down to my waist "Your entire body, your mind, your soul. All mine."
