This story, a suspense thriller, is an imaginary story based on an assassination bid on the life of prince Skandagupta of the Gupta dynasty. It is set in the period where the mighty Gupta Emperors ruled over a large empire in India from 320 to 467 CE. The empire had a powerful army under its command, a well-oiled administration including demarcated and efficient departments very akin to those in modern times, a developed trade and flourishing arts, literature, architecture and science and technology. It had a particularly good network of spies who kept the kings informed about the law-and-order situations in the empire and a police system to maintain it. The subjects lived in general prosperity. The period is aptly called the Golden Age in Indian history.
I have tried to incorporate all of the above features in my story.

The period in which this story is set is somewhere around the Vedic Era (1500-1000 BCE), which is the period when the Vedas (the oldest sacred texts of Hinduism) were composed. To maintain the authenticity of the story, some words and terminologies will be used from traditional languages.
