Jay had had a very long day, a visit from his ex-wife who turned out to actually not be his ex because signed divorce papers - or lack there of - and a break-up with his current (well now ex) girlfriend. The day has been full of exes and all he wanted was a beer... or three. However at the bar he meets a woman and one drink turns into something much more, but they both agree it's just a one-night thing and they don't see each other again until about two weeks later when he has coincidental run-in with the same soft blonde curls at a crime scene. It's there he finds out one thing they didn't cover the night they met, she's also a cop, and when they end up working together certain previous encounters might come back into play, or can they keep it so it will stay as a one-night thing?

- alternate universe/canon divergence where jay and hailey met before 4x21 and then follows the canon timeline of season 5 onwards with a small twist -

- mentions of linstead in earlier chapters and upzek in later chapters -

What if you wake up one day and all you know is gone? What if you wake up to be someone you thought never existed? My name is Jesse Lee Soffer. Okay, wait. Let's try that again. My name is Jay Halstead. In the world I woke up to today, Jesse Lee Soffer doesn't exist. Our real selves don't exist. One Chicago never existed. What we used to act has turned into reality. There's only one problem: We have no idea what to do. We're not cops. We're not firefighters. We're not doctors. None of us are first responders. We're actors, and we need to figure out a way to deal with this. We need to know the truth. But what if the lines between reality and fiction become blurry? It's hard to tell what to believe when you have to doubt who you even really are. ---- This book is finished, but it will be edited as soon as I get the time. The book starts where Chicago PD Season 7 ends. All rights reserved, have fun reading! I'd love to hear your opinions, so please comment or vote if you like... PLEASE NOTE: Apart from the One Chicago characters and cast, this story is a work of fiction. Any resemblance to other real persons, living or dead, or to other stories is purely coincidental. As I am using actors' names, please note that the storyline is fictitious and based solely on my love for One Chicago. I have never met any of the cast and do not mean to offend anyone or portray anyone in a particular way. Although actors' names are used, the characters are fictitious and do not represent real life One Chicago cast members. The characters in this story are nothing more than exactly that - characters. I fully respect all One Chicago actors and their privacy.
