Azriel, the spymaster of the Night Court, one of the most powerful Illyrians to walk Prythian. He was damaged, he was broken, and he thought himself evil. He found solace in his darkness and in his shadows.

Gwyneth Berdara, a priestess in the library after a horrific event left her scarred. She had finally learned to come out of her shell, as she and her found family of Nesta and Emerie began training to be Valkyries.

They were unlikely friends, and yet they found themselves becoming close with one another, almost as if they were drawn together, and it was out of their control. After all, he was the one who saved her from the Hybern soldiers that fateful night, and it was her who will unknowingly save him from himself.

the characters and world all belong to SJM! not me, this is a work of fan fiction but the plot is mine :)

Gwyneth had always felt connected to her faith, a higher power presiding over her. That faith had shaken that devastating day those years ago, the day that went on to haunt her every nightmare for years to come. She's still trying to come back from it, to not only restore her faith in life and love, but her faith in herself. The sanctity of her spirit- she prayed for resolve. Every punch was a prayer. Every mile was a hymn. Until her knuckles bled and her knees gave. Azriel had been surrounded by darkness his whole life, a poison on his world, on his being. He exercised restraint in his every waking moment, banishing that darkness within himself. Some guessed of the strain it put on him, but no one knew the extent of it, how deep his scars ran. It was better this way, he was sure. He had always thought that if there were a higher power- which he wholly doubted- such deities must loathe him to have burdened him such darkness. He hadn't much faith in the gods anyway, much less faith that he could sway their opinion on him. But Gwyneth and Azriel did have one thing in common: the quiet fight within themselves. They only knew one way: to go about it alone, couldn't fathom letting another in. But there's a magic in finding someone who is your equal but opposite, something transforming. And frankly, Gwyneth and Azriel could both use a little magic. All characters owned by SJM in the ACOTAR series. Story takes place after the events of ACOSF. Aligns with the events in my other fic: A Storm of Flames and Deceit. I haven't finished Crescent City, so this story takes place outside of the events of those books as well. Trial of the Valkyrie

26 parts Complete Mature

**Inspired by OUTLANDER - Daily releases starting 4/09 -- 480+ pages complete** Following the events of ACOSF, the Valkyrie must answer for their victory in the Blood Rite and face trial before the Illyrian Tribunal in Windhaven. Corporal punishment is certain, but there is one way around it for Gwyneth Berdara: Marriage. "As Gwyneth Berdara's husband, I invoke the right to accept whatever punishment is determined on her behalf." Slowly, the three Magistrates' heads swiveled to Gwyn. The priestess swallowed hard. "Miss Berdara," Crispin said, "You can confirm that you are the wife of Spymaster Azriel?" She did not hesitate. "Yes." Celio's brows furrowed, while Crispin exhaled heavily. "Thank you, for confirming, Miss Berdara," Fabius said, his voice slick with mock amiability. "Please note that we reserve the right to call your union into question if we find justification." He shifted his attention to Azriel. "Sustained, Spymaster Azriel."
