FREE STORY. PAID BONUS CHAPTERS. DANGEROUS. BEAUTIFUL. SURREAL. Those were the words Jodie Henning used to describe the man she fell in love with, the first time she met him. HAZEL. BLACK. CRIMSON. Those were the colors she associated with his bright eyes, his long dark waves of hair and the scars on his back and upper chest. GUTTURAL. PRIMAL. SELFLESS. Those were the words she used to describe her time in bed with him, a time that edged itself into her memory, a time she continued to dream about for days and months afterwards. PAIN. HURT. RED. Those were everything she felt on his wedding day; throat closing, on the verge of tears, overwhelming sadness and pure pain. A SADDENING GLIMPSE OF HOPE That was what she felt when he came up behind her and whispered Shakespearean promises into her yearning ear. ALEXANDER MATEO HIDALGO III also known as Alex Clayton, number 77, left forward for the Seattle Kraken. But that changed since he got married, he barely shows up for shows or red carpets. The only place he can be spotted is the gym or the rink, with punching bags or hockey sticks. However, Alex is done playing by the book, he's done denying himself what he wants, what he needs. It's been four whole years, would she give him a chance to explain? Would she want to be a part of his dangerous world? Would she fall in love with him all over again? After all, she was the first person he opened up to, the first woman to see him for him; and for the first time in his entire life, he was scared of something that wasn't his life or duties to his family. It was a different kind of love, a love that burned mansions and cities, a Love that sparked with intimacy so much greater than sex. Four years isn't long enough to forget, is it? After being caught, tried and arrested for a crime she didn't do; Lexi Hunter has a choice. It's either Juvie or spend the summer on her dad's ranch working off her probation. Should be an easy pick, right? Only problem is, she hasn't seen or spoken to her dad in ten years. The last time she saw him was through a car window as her mom drove them and all their possessions away to go live a normal, busy, eccentric lifestyle in New York. So basically, being back at a place she used to call home with a man she can't muster the respect for to actually call 'dad', is a prison sentence in itself. Lexi is determined to hate and ridicule everything about her situation. Wanting nothing more than to get the summer over with so she can go back to real life. That all changes when she meets Dawson Priest; the ranch hand who she is forced to work side by side with. His optimistic, simple, almost eloquent outlook on life, the world, and the small town ranch life in general sparks her to see things from his perspective and may even challenge her enough to mend the strained relationship with her dad. This is a story of self discovery, personal growth, a steamy cowboy fling, and learning the importance of forgiveness. This simple, small town life may not seem as much of a jail sentence by the end of the summer. Who knows, maybe Lexi turns out to be a country girl at heart after all.
