Linden James is a fifteen-year-old greaser girl from Tulsa, Oklahoma. She's friends with all of the gang; Darry, Two Bit, Dally, Steve, Sodapop, Johnny, and Ponyboy.

No one knows how, but it seems that she has somehow managed to worm her way into Dally's cold heart, making him feel things he never felt before. He acts softer around her than he does with Johnny. Dallas himself doesn't even know why.

Linden is what the gang would consider golden. She's sweet, kind, smart, rarely smokes. She only does when something is bothering her, but she never tells anyone what it is that's bothering her.

No one knows what her home life is like. No one knows how horrible it is. No one knows that it's worse than even Johnny's.
