Newly crowned King Alaric must now choose a bride, else he forfeits the crown to his sinister cousin, Jeran. But with his family's high status and power, he has to pick a bride his family deems "worthy" of the throne. In other words, another Emerald.
Avivit is a shy girl of the Diamond clan. She's aloof, and at times very ignorant to things due to her sheltered upbringing. But she's also a dreamer and dreams of becoming a successful baker and opening her own bakery. But if her family had anything to say about it, she is going to become the perfect copy of her older sister, the golden child, and become the perfect housewife to a wealthy lord.
When Avivit has a chance encounter with the King himself, it opens the opportunity for her to finally live out her dream with a job at the palace. Although she faces much scrutiny and hatred because she is a Diamond, she and Alaric manage to form a strong bond through their family issues. Avivit sees that Alaric is just like her, pressured by others and alone. Alaric finds himself drawn to the young girl despite her status. But it would never work. After all, an Emerald and a Diamond could never be together...could they?
