the night we met

Scarlett Jade is a freshman at NYU and seems like she has moved on from her old life. Holden is stuck working at his dad's restaurant which also happens to be in New York. They both haven't seen, spoken, or even crossed paths with each other since their Junior Years of high school.

That is, until now.

"Why are you doing this? You were just going to leave after handing me this?" I say holding up the yellow slip of paper.

"I have to go," Holden says, pushing past me walking towards his car.

"No. No. No. You don't get to do this Holden not right now, not today." I scream, not caring about the rain soaking my shirt.

"Holden, listen to me please." I plead walking up to him taking his cheeks in my hands wiping the stray tears from his cheeks.

"No Jade please don't make this harder than it is," He says just below a whisper turning his head away from me and out of my hands.

"I love you," I say the words I have been dying to say for 2 years.

He stares at me for a moment. My heart raced, my eyes wet from my tears, and my hair soaking wet from the rain. But instead of saying something, I watch as he opens up his car door, climbing in and starting the engine.

"Holden, Holden don't do this, please!" I scream, my throat burning from screaming.

I sit on the curb in the pouring rain. He just left. Holden left me.
