Elio never believed in love, he would cringe at people kissing in public, sharing little laughs while walking on the sidewalk, the overall feeling of love was a horrible concept to him. But to Orene, it was a completely different story. Orene loved, well, love. She always strived for that picture-perfect relationship, where they would run in the rain and kiss at the intersection, where they would climb mountains and scream to the whole world to let them all know that they were together and they were happy. Any and everything even similar to that, Orene wanted. Tauni refused to allow Orene to have that picture-perfect ending, and he made sure Orene wouldn't get her ending.
