"That's it, a simple game of chess" Janson said with tranquillity. The king; sitting untouched behind layers and layers of protection, waiting at the top of an imperfect hierarchy. He looks over a chaotic world, but through a modern screen, in a luxurious office chair, in the highest facility known. He's safe. "Simple" She scoffed. A pawn; seeking nothing but survival and vengeance. Trapped inside of a calculated hellhole, her life being controlled for as long as she could remember. A mere test subject, climbs through hell and fights through mayhem just to keep her head above water. She's struggling. But in the end, a pawn can take the king if enough strategy is applied. - cussing - slight smut You do not need to understand how to play chess in order to read this :) I do not own any of these characters except for Natalie. The rest belongs to the author, James Dashner.

[EDIT 1] My work is currently undergoing some revisions. I wrote this 5 years ago, and needless to say, some of the dialogue, scenes, wording, and overall feel is quite childish. Not all of it, but some of it. I've decided to revisit my original first story and make it better. The story is definitely much more mature now, and I think everyone will enjoy it better now that the tone has changed to fit the melancholy nature of my story. Thanks in advance. Thomas gets a chance at redemption when he is offered a seemingly impossible task: plant an idea in someone's mind. If he succeeds, Thomas and his fellow gladers will have succeeded in bringing back a long lost friend. But a dangerous enemy anticipates his every move.
