Claire, a 19-year old from a modest family, failed most of her gcse exams. She is sent to Marigold summer school, where she expects to study and become friends with the other re-takers.
Instead, she learns the strange reality of Marigold: It hosts a yearly competition, during which students are eliminated one by one. Only the winner can graduate.

And why would they agree to that? Because graduation isn't the only thing at stake. There's a large check at the end of the competition, too.
