The fictional black and white facade of Paul Murphy & Aaron Eckleburg's childhood is rapidly vanishing before their eyes, as they recount a day in the life struggle with depression and loss of innocence. Throughout the day's events, Paul & Aaron come to realize an essential tenet of a good life- friendship. The youth of sixteen years pull together the wisdom of their Judeo-Christian upbringings with the gifts of knowledge through ancient & modern literature and the cathartic relief of contemporary music to deal with the daily trials and tribulations of teenage life. It's a search for personal connection and guidance in an ever-growing impersonal society.

Intrigued by Charlie's way of thinking, Sam slowly starts to trust her as she works to prove to him that real friendship is unconditional and that life, however painful, is worth living.
