IT ALL started the day my mother came up to me and said: “Okay Lee honey, I've got something to tell you.” She started out cautiously, testing the waters. I didn't like her tone of voice – looking back on this now that should have been my first warning. I hesitated at the steps, my palms slick with sweat on railing. “Alright... To put it bluntly,” She took a brief pause to take one of her deep “cleansing” breaths before she continued. That was warning sign number two, I just didn't know it then. “ We're moving.” My first reaction was: stop, drop, and roll on the floor in a fit of uncontrollable laughter. “Whew, that’s a good one mom!” Moving? Pssh! We've lived here as long as I could remember. I gripped the railing for balance as I wiped a tear from my eye and met her gaze – she was dead serious… Fudge. *** Bleak is a story about a girl whose life is thrown upside down when her mother decides its time that they move. Klee doesn't notice this at first but the move is for her own good. But soon Klee's world starts falling apart as she is targeted by a mysterious man. Missing persons reports begin to surface and the truth can't be overlooked any longer for ignorance is not always bliss.
