Over the years he became an empty shell. In an attempt to get over Katniss, Peeta started to date Delly Cartwright, but broke up with her during the summer before senior year. In an attempt to stave off the hunger she feels for Peeta without putting pressure on him to label what exactly he feels for her, she suggests a simple proposition-that they become friends with benefits. But friends with benefits is never as simple as it sounds. Both Katniss and Peeta yearn for more, but neither has the guts to tell the other, making for a very cruel summer indeed.
