This is a Ninjago Fanfiction, and I don't own the characters or the plot that is related to the show. 

A young girl wakes up to find herself on top of a t.v station with other people who were trying to escape. A black cloud engulfed the rest of the city, putting everyone in danger. With no idea who she is or what she is doing there, she struggles with what to do. After the Ninja rescues her, she finds out she has special abilities no one has ever seen before. Will she learn who she is? Where did her powers come from, and how can she find her way back to the ones she loves?All Rights Reserved

As Kai's time as a ninja, he always heard these comments and he couldn't do anything about it so he has to bottle his feelings whenever people say this. One day when he was on a mission with Cole to save some adventurous that got stuck in a narrow cave a disaster struck on Kai. After the mission Cole got all the thanks and Kai got none, Cole was the only one who truly understood what happened. Kai gets sick of how he is being treated and leaves to have a walk to take his mind off of things... but then he meets someone he didn't expect to meet... Non-canon ships are not implied but take it as you wish, just not greenflame because no.
